AIRCRAFT APPRAISALS |
|
| There are many reasons for getting an aircraft
appraised.
1) You may have upgraded your airplane with a new engine or avionics and your insurance company wants a verification of its value so the policy may be amended. 2) You may be part of a partnership that's about to change. The majority of aircraft appraisals are done because the aircraft is changing ownership. 3) You may be selling your airplane and don't know it's value, or you may be buying an airplane and want be certain that you don't pay too much for it. There are many so-called "appraisal vehicles" in the marketplace. Some can be purchased by a buyer or seller to be used as pricing information for the airplane that's being bought or sold. Most of them are very difficult and time-consuming to use, but what's even worse is that often the methods used in calculating values are hardly fair to the airplane involved. The source of the information in the database is the first and foremost qualifier. For example, some so-called appraisal guides will offer a range for a particular year, make, and model. The range is so vast that the book can't be wrong. But how are you going to determine the true value? You could throw a dart and see where on the scale it landed.
